Role Purpose:

The Director of Growth and Partnership is responsible to support CGPO in shaping and executing company’s growth strategy through investments, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic partnerships, both domestically and internationally. This role is instrumental in attracting, evaluating, and structuring joint venture (JV) opportunities, particularly in upstream mining sectors such as copper, Gold and Chromite. The successful candidate will also play a key role in mentoring and developing junior Omani talent within the department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

A. Strategic Leadership

  • Support the CGPO to define and implement MDO’s growth and investment strategy across base metals, industrial minerals, and international opportunities.
  • Identify and prioritize new opportunities aligned with national and shareholder priorities.
  • Lead commercial and financial evaluations to support investment decisions through the Stage-Gate framework (Gates 0–3).

B. Partnerships & Investments

  • Lead the team through deal origination and structuring of joint ventures, partnerships, and M&A transactions.
  • Develop and support the team to Negotiate investment terms, governance frameworks, and shareholder agreements in coordination with Legal and Finance.
  • Initiate and develop relationships with investors, mining companies, technology partners, and governments.
  • Lead the team to conduct the needed due diligence processes, technical, financial, legal, and ESG, prior to Gate 3 (Investment Decision).
  • Support CGPO in aligning with shareholder expectations, particularly OIA and the Ministry of Energy & Minerals.

C. Stakeholder & Market Engagement

  • Represent MDO in key investor, government, and industry forums.
  • Promote MDO’s investment proposition internationally to attract partners and co-investors.
  • Prepare and publish market studies regarding subjects, commodities and activities of relevance to MDO business.

D. Governance & Compliance

  • Support to ensure all investment activities comply with MDO’s governance frameworks and OIA policies.
  • Develop and maintain transparency and rigor in documentation, approvals, and Board submissions.
  • Support the CGPO in preparing investment papers and progress reports.

Minimum Qualification & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or Engineering related field.
  • MBA or master’s degree in Finance/Investments preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years in mining, energy, or industrial investment, including at least 5 years in executive leadership roles.
  • Proven record in JV structuring, M&A, portfolio management, or mining project finance.
  • Experience working with government entities, sovereign funds, or large industrial groups.
  • Deep understanding of investment appraisal, valuation, and risk management.
  • Strong negotiation, cross-cultural communication, and leadership skills.
