Job Summary:

Manages, lifts, and stacks empty or laden shipping containers in ports, terminals, and container yards using specialized heavy machinery. They are responsible for transporting containers to/from trucks and railcars, performing daily safety inspections, ensuring precise stacking, and adhering to strict occupational safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Container Handling: Safely operate the reach stacker to lift, move, and stack containers (often up to 4+ high) with precision and speed.
  • Loading/Unloading: Load and unload containers from road trailers, rail wagons, or storage positions.
  • Equipment Inspection: Conduct pre-shift inspections to check hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical components, including tire condition, oil levels, and lights.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all terminal safety protocols, including monitoring load capacities, maintaining stability, and avoiding sudden movements.
  • Coordination: Collaborate with ground staff, truck drivers, and crane operators to ensure smooth terminal workflow.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
  • Certification: Valid license/certification to operate heavy equipment/reach stackers.
  • Experience: Proven experience operating reach stackers or heavy forklifts, preferably in a port or container yard environment.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of load charts, hydraulic systems, and container stacking techniques.
  • Attributes: Excellent spatial awareness, concentration, attention to detail, and ability to work in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
Physical & Environmental Demands:
  • Environment: Often involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and in, at times, noisy environments.
  • Physical: Ability to climb in and out of equipment, sit for long periods, and occasionally lift heavy items (if necessary).
Common Work Setting:
  • Ports, shipping terminals, container depots, and logistics yards.
